A portion of the popular Roaring River Road (Forest Road 255) will be temporarily closed from October 3 through approximately October 31 to complete emergency bridge repairs at the Middle Fork Boise River crossing. This road is frequently used to access the Sheep Mountain Trailhead and Lower Roaring River Trailhead.
Forest Road 255 will be closed at the Middle Fork Boise River crossing, just south of the intersection with Forest Road 268 to approximately one-quarter mile northeast of the Lower Roaring River Trailhead. This is the only road segment closed.
Surrounding areas will be accessible via the Phifer Creek Road (Forest Road 156), Middle Fork Boise River Road (Forest Road 268) and/or the Trinity Ridge Road (Forest Road 129).
A routine inspection on August 13 of the Roaring River Bridge (Forest Road 255) that spans the Middle Fork Boise River revealed significant scour around and beneath the upstream side of the northern pier. The cause of the scour is not certain but may be attributed to localized increased water flows and debris from sub-watersheds burned in recent fires, particularly the Trinity Ridge Fire of 2012.
The contractor is Kesler Construction based in Donnelly, Idaho.
