Authorities in Oregon arrested an Ontario man late Sunday night after he was found hiding in an irrigation ditch following a crash at the junction of Highway 20 and Highway 201N, south of Ontario.
On January 19 at 10:30 p.m., the Malheur County Sheriff's Office and OSP responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover traffic crash at the Cairo Junction. Witnesses said the driver fled the scene on foot, was intoxicated, and was last seen near Cairo Elementary School.
An Ontario police officer found a man hiding in an irrigation ditch about a half mile away from the crash scene. A witness positively identified the man as the driver who fled the overturned vehicle.
The suspect was identified as Brandon Daniel West, age 27, from Ontario. West was found to be on parole for criminally negligent homicide. He had a minor injury but declined medical treatment. West was booked into the Malheur County Jail.
