As crews around the state battle wildfires today marked a special occasion for an anti-wildfire icon.
Smokey Bear, aka Smokey The Bear, is celebrating his 70th birthday.
He dropped by the Idaho Botanical Garden to celebrate the occasion today.
While wildfires are sparked every year by a number of different things, one major cause doesn’t have to happen at all.
"It's the prevention of human caused fires that is really important and that's Smokey's message, that we don't need human caused fires,” said Ellen Dunlap from the Boise National Forest.
Officials urge everyone to make sure campfires are completely extinguished before leaving a campground and avoid driving in backcountry areas where dry brush and grass could ignite.
