S. Idaho city worker dies in trench collapse
WENDELL, Idaho (AP) -- A southern Idaho city worker died this week after a trench he was working in caved in and buried him.
KTVM-TV reports that 43-year-old Jerrad Durfee died on Tuesday afternoon in Wendell.
The Gooding County Sheriff's Office says that Durfee was with a crew installing a new water pipe.
He was using a jack hammer when the trench walls gave way and sent mounds of earth falling on top of him.
A co-worker scrambled to free his head and shoulders, but Durfee died at the scene.
The sheriff's office is investigating the incident -- and what might have been done to prevent it.
