Red Flag warning results in multiple fires in Twin Falls District

The Bureau of Land Management reports that a large lightning storm that prompted Thursday’s Red Flag warning has caused several fire starts in the Twin Falls District. Crews are currently responding to reports of 17 fires.

Resources have not yet arrived on scene at every reported fire as of yet. The information that is available at this time is listed below:

Coonskin Butte Complex Fire:
Start: 4:52 p.m. July 31, 2013
Location: 10 miles west of Roseworth
Estimated size: 3,000 acres
Resources: 8 engines, 1 dozer, Rangeland Fire Protection Association
Cause: currently under investigation
Structures: None threatened
Note: The Coonskin Butte Complex consists of three separate fires in the same area.

Horse Butte Area:
Start: Approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday July 31, 2013
Location East of Rogerson
Number of fires: 3
Resources: 2 engines, Rangeland Fire Protection Association

Crows Nest:
Start: Approximately 7p.m. on Wednesday July 31, 2013
Location: South of Balanced Rock Road East of Castleford
Size: 400 acres
Resources: 4 engines, 1 water tender, 1 dozer

Millerd:
Start: 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday July 31, 2013
Location 5 miles east of Shoshone
Estimated size: 500 acres
Resources: 4 engines,1 dozer, Shoshone and Dietrich Rural Fire Departments
Structures: None currently threatened
