Reaction to coroner sign controversy

By On Your Side Newsroom. CREATED Apr 18, 2014

The primary is just around the corner, and one candidate’s yard sign is drawing attention. But is it for the right reasons?

"I think it's disrespectful in a way," said resident Karli Sprague. Resident Brian Nicholson disagreed, saying "I don't feel like it's a problem, I think it's catchy."

Matt Townsend is running for Ada County Coroner, and many are talking about his election sign. Now, some see nothing wrong, but others say the red spray paint looks like dripping blood.

"I get that he was trying to connect it with what the job is, but I think he went about it the wrong way," Sprague said.

"I think it's totally fine, and if it gets people's attention, it's even better," Nicholson said.

With all of the attention, Townsend wrote this on his Facebook page, saying he doesn't know how his sign is more offensive than a haunted house sign. "I think it's offensive he compares it to a haunted house," Sprague said. Resident Brian Nicholson sees it differently, saying "There's a lot of people that are extra sensitive and maybe shouldn't be, and perhaps it's all in good fun."
