Family and friends of a Boise firefighter mourned his death Friday night. Mark Urban, 40, was fatally injured during a proficiency jump around 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, at a practice facility near Prairie, east of Boise.
Officials with the National Interagency Fire Center said there may have been a problem with Urban's parachute. NIFC spokesman, Ken Frederick, said of Urban, "He's really going to be missed."
A smokejumper has not died due to parachute problems since 2000. NIFC has dispatched a team to perform a thorough investigation into the accident.
