Debris flowing from a mudslide plugged a culvert and overran the highway about seven miles north of Idaho City yesterday evening, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The route remains closed.
“The degree to which the roadway shoulder had eroded and roadway base undermined was unknown last night, leading to a full closure of the highway in the area between Rabbit Creek Road and Garden Valley Road,” said ITD spokesman Reed Hollinshead in a news release. “Crews hope to open one lane to travel, with pilot-car guidance, by mid-day today (Thursday).”
Right now, vehicles cannot get from Lowman to Idaho City because of the closure.
