UPDATE: The Ada County Coroner's Office has confirmed that Michael Moro who crashed through a fence in Middleton last Saturday causing an evacuation died on Wednesday.

His cause of death is still pending.

Twenty homes were evacuated on Saturday, August 2, after a car went through a fence and struck a home in the area of Eaton Rd. and W. 3rd St. N. in Middleton.

The Canyon County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident and was told by the reporting party that the odor of gas might mean that the vehicle may have hit a natural gas line.

When emergency crews arrived, the driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old from Middleton,  became non-compliant and was detained. Due to the ruptured gas line and strong winds, Middleton Fire Department requested an evacuation of nearby homes.

Residents were notified via phone to evacuate and were allowed to return around 15 minutes later. At this time, the Canyon County Sheriff's Office reports there is no continued risk to the public.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment after the exposure to the leaking gas. No criminal charges have been filed, however, the investigation into the cause of the crash and the actions of the driver continues.
