Idaho State University settles over professor lawsuit

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho State University has reached a settlement in a defamation lawsuit brought by former professor Habib Sadid.

Sadid, who was fired in 2009, told the Idaho State Journal that he felt the courts were biased against him and he was disappointed in the settlement terms.

The terms of the settlement weren't released. Sadid has sued the university in state court twice before, contending that officials violated his right to free speech and that he was wrongly fired from the school. Both of those lawsuits were decided in favor of ISU.

The defamation case was scheduled to go to trial this week, but instead was dismissed Monday after the settlement was reached. ISU's attorney John Bailey said he couldn't talk about the circumstances surrounding the dismissal.
