Idaho Power Customers Frustrated by Delays

Idaho power customers are running into roadblocks when trying to pay their bills on the phone and even online.
The problem is causing many customers to worry their power may be shut off but the utility company says that is not a concern.
People calling the utility company are experiencing long wait times or being directed to the internet.
People calling in to Idaho Power might hear the pre-recorded message: Thank you for calling Idaho Power. We are currently experiencing unusually high call volume."
Customers calling in to Idaho Power's customer service are being turned away. Representatives say just log onto idahopower.com.
But viewer Wendy Garcia wrote to us on Facebook saying:
“I understand we can pay online but a lot of the times the system is messing up and I cannot log in at all.”
This problem won't be going away tomorrow.
"It could take another couple weeks,” said Maggie Brilz, Director of Idaho Power’s call center. “It could be as little as ten days, but we will certainly be giving our customers notice before we start down that process again."
The reason is that the company switched to a new system, and leaders are still working out the kinks.
"There are just a few little things that are different than what our customer service reps are used to working on,” said Brilz. “So it's taking them a little bit longer to get to the certain parts of the screens where they do the transactions."
It's good news for customers overdue in paying their bills. They are catching a break. Idaho Power will not cut off power to customers who have missed paying up.
Representatives for Idaho Power reiterate - no one will lose service while they are getting their system up and running.
