The Idaho Humane Society is preparing for a large transfer of homeless dogs into Boise on December 9th, 2013.
Working with three partner shelters in California and a non-profit network of pilots, Wings Of Rescue, the dogs are expected to arrived via airplane on Monday.
The dogs arriving in Boise are all small breeds and are coming from California shelters in Alameda, Berkeley and Sacramento. These shelters struggle to find homes for the large number of dogs that arrive at their facilities while in Boise, the Idaho Humane Society has a high demand from homes looking to adopt smaller, companion dogs.
Once the new arrivals are on the ground in Boise, IHS staff and veterinarians will immediately begin evaluating the dogs and completing any necessary medical care.
The shelter hopes to have all the dogs ready to meet new owners in time for the '12 Strays of Christmas' Holiday Adopt-a-thon taking place at the Shelter and Adoption Center on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
On Saturday, all dog adoptions fees will be reduced by 25% and all cat adoption fees will be only $25.
