Hit and run driver eludes Elmore County deputies for 5 hours
On Monday night around 8 p.m., Elmore County dispatch received several calls of a two-car crash on I-84 near milepost 129. As deputies responded they received information that one of the drivers ran from the scene of the accident.
Witnesses said the man, who appeared to be in his late-20's, ran south from the scene into the desert. The man was later identified as 28-year-old Ryan J. Munson from Carlton, Oregon.
After Munson fled, deputies located an empty knife sheath and an empty pistol case, leaving them to believe that Munson was armed. Munson was last seen running southeast through the desert.
A Canyon County K-9 responded to assist but was unable to locate Munson.
Around 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, a call came into Elmore County Dispatch stating a male subject matching the description of Munson was standing on the side of the interstate near mile post 130 eastbound. An Idaho State Trooper who was in the area was able to locate Munson, who immediately fled on foot again.
The trooper and Elmore County Deputies were able to capture Munson a short time later and take him into custody without further incident.
