A 7-year-old Idaho boy remains in critical condition Monday night after an accidental shooting Saturday.
Two children in Hayden were playing unsupervised with a gun. It went off and the small caliber bullet hit the child in the head. This is the second accidental shooting of a child in Idaho in less than a month. A 5-year-old Blackfoot child was killed in July.
Gun experts say the shootings are a reminder of the importance of gun safety and keeping firearms secure around children.
“I know that these accidental shootings are totally preventable,” said Chris Klein with Boise Gun Company. “Just a simple gun lock or small gun safe, or just a parent or guardian, or whoever just being observant when they have weapons around. And the biggest thing is not having loaded guns where they're accessible to children or anyone."
Klein is also a part-time police officer and is a big believer in gun safes and portable trigger locks.
