UPDATE: Coroner identifies girl who drowned in Lake Cascade
UPDATE: The drowning victim has been identified as Evonne Tran of Meridian. The Ada County Coroner has ruled the drowning as accidental.
The Valley County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 15-year-old girl has drowned in Lake Cascade on Thursday, July 25th.
The Donnelly Fire Department and the McCall Fire Department responded to a call of a missing girl who was estimated to have been under water for over 10 minutes.
The girl was from Meridian, Idaho and was part of the Treasure Valley High School Cross County Running Camp.
A chaperone of the camp was a nurse and conducted CPR on the victim until the girl was transported to McCall Hospital where she was stabilized enough to be flown via St. Als Life Flight to Boise, but eventually passed away.
In response, the Valley County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind recreationalist to wear a US Coast Guard approved life jackets when participating in any lake activities, regardless of swimming ability.
Sgt. Speer of the Valley County Sheriff’s Marine Division stated, “It is tragic when these deaths happen. The Marine Division is available to conduct Life Jacket education and demonstrations to any group or persons wanting the information.” Sgt. Speer also reminds people there are life jacket loaner stations around the lakes in Valley County, “these life jackets are there for anyone to use at no cost. They are available in an effort to provide a lifesaving devise to anyone who wants to use one.”
