IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- An Idaho Falls man accused of operating a fraudulent silver investment scheme has been convicted by a federal jury on just one of 10 felony charges pursued by prosecutors.
The jury deliberated for two days before finding Gene Edward Hinsley II guilty of interstate transportation of stolen property. The Post Register reports the jury failed to reach agreement on six counts of wire fraud and three counts of mail fraud.
Hinsley was the owner of Galaxy Coin in Idaho Falls. Prosecutors say he used a low-risk silver investment scheme to dupe investors from Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and California out of millions of dollars.
The jury agreed that Hinsley illegally transported stolen property across state lines when he accepted a personal check from a Wyoming resident in 2007.
