Crews continued work to contain the McCan Fire, located between the Beaver Creek and Elk Complex fires in the Twin Falls District. The fire, estimated at 23,860 acres, is 45% contained. Resources assigned to the fire will also be available to respond to any new fires in the vicinity.
Weather continues to play a role in controlling fires in the area. Afternoon gusts are expected again on Wednesday, possibly reaching 20 miles an hour on ridges. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Thursday and Friday due to the unstable atmospheric conditions. A dry cold front is predicted for the weekend.
Eight helicopters are assigned to the Beaver Creek and McCan fires. The helicopters are shared as aerial resources are stretched thin due to the many large fires burning in Idaho and other western states.
The area closure includes the entire Fairfield Ranger District of the Sawtooth National Forest.
