A Boise man has been sentenced for insurance fraud after intentionally misfiling a false claim with GEICO.
Charles O. Szczerba was sentenced to 30 days in jail, four years of probation, ordered to repay court cost, and must perform 100 hours of community service.
Szczerba pleaded guilty on October 22nd, 2013 to one count of insurance fraud after filing a false claim with GEICO Insurance for damages to his vehicle that allegedly occurred on July 21, 2012, while Alexis M. Mecham was driving the car.
After an investigation, GEICO discovered that Mecham had been involved in an accident and cited for DUI in Valley County, July 4th, 2012.
However, the coverage on the vehicle had been cancelled on June 9, 2012, for non-payment. On July 9, 2012, Szczerba had his policy reinstated and added collision coverage to the policy.
