BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Boise State University's efforts to "go green" include a solar-powered picnic table where students and staff can charge their portable electronic devices.
Solar panels on the Solar Power-Dok station collect energy from the sun and store it in a battery at the base of the table.
The solar table has four 110-volt power outlets and two USB outlets. It also has an LED light, allowing the station to be used at night.
School officials say in addition to its practical use, they hope the $13,000 project will lead to conversations about the use of sustainable power on campus.
David Smith is associate vice president for campus planning and facilities. He says if the charging station stays busy, school leaders hope to bring a few more to campus.
