Single-digit relative humidity yesterday was a factor in pushing the Kelley fire to 5,389 acres with the largest growth to the east.
The fire has crossed trail #52 West Fork Beaver Creek Trail and spotted across Deadwood Creek.
Fire resources are concentrating their efforts on keeping the fire south of the South Fork Boise River, east of Grouse Butte, and north of Blue Ridge.
The focus of fire operations today is to conduct both aerial and hand ignition operations to remove unburned fuel from the Baumgartner Campground to the south along the South Fork of the Boise River.
THE CLOSURE AREA HAS INCREASED:
The western boundary remains the same along the Boise/Sawtooth NF boundary to the #227 road near Featherville.
From this point, the closure has increased from the #227 road immediately east of Featherville north along the boundary between the Sawtooth and Boise NF up and along the Bear Creek Jeep Trail.
The trail is open but the area south is closed.
The eastern boundary of the closure is the #079 road over Flex Summit, south to Big Smokey junction and south on the 227 road to Couch Summit. The road is open but the area to the west is closed.
The south boundary is the Salt Bowns Road to the Boardman Pass Connector Trail following the Southfork Lime Creek Trail to the Lime Creek Trail to the Boise/Sawtooth NF Boundary.
The south boundary road and trails are closed as well as the area north.
Closure Orders currently on the Fairfield Ranger District may change in the future. For a closure map and official closure order refer to: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3707/
The Kelley Fire, which started by lightning on August 24th, is located 7 miles southeast of Featherville, Idaho. Burning in a steep, remote area, it is not easily accessible by fire crews.
Hot and dry conditions with increased winds on Friday afternoon could intensify fire behavior and produce visible smoke.
The fire grew from 10 acres to almost 1000 acres, moving north across the West Fork Kelley Creek Trail and spotting northeast across the number 50 Kelley Creek ATV trail (also known as the Iron Mountain Trail).
A closure order closed the South Fork of the Boise River Road #227 from the Forest Boundary near Featherville, East to Skeleton Creek, then South to Lime Creek Trail. The closure includes Baumgartner Campground.
Closure Orders currently on the Fairfield Ranger District may change in the future. The Beaver Creek Area Closure will change as crews control the fire and work to stabilize the roads and trails in the closure area.
