Weekend Fire Update: Beaver Creek Fire

Hotshot crews, engine crews, and dozers responded to areas on the west side of Highway 75 including the Zinc Spur subdivision and Croy Canyon to stop the fast moving Beaver Creek Fire.

The fire was active during the evening hours prompting officials to temporarily close down Highway 75 from Deer Creek south of Hailey to through traffic, which has since been reopened.

Firefighters in Greenhorn Gulch fought the fire to prevent structures from burning, supported by dozers and aerial support.

The fire burned in the east of Baker Creek which officials say could reach the highway by the end of the day, prompting crews to work even harder at suppressing the blaze.

A red flag warning is in effect today because of gusty winds, and low humidity which can lead to erratic fire behavior.

On Friday evening, 698 personnel were assigned to the fire with more on the way over the weekend. There are now fourteen helicopters including five helitankers.

There are sixteen handcrews, including six Hotshot crews, and 63 engine crews working around the clock.

On Saturday morning the fire was 92,754 acres with containment at six percent. One home, a bunkhouse, and six other structures have been destroyed by the Beaver Creek Fire.

With the disaster declaration issued by Governor "Butch" Otter on August 12th, the National Guard is assisting by providing extra personnel for checkpoints and road closures.

“With the Beaver Creek Fire moving toward structures, we are putting all available resources toward the effort,” said VHS director Col. Brad Rich. “The Idaho National Guard has unique capabilities that will be instrumental in providing for the public’s safety and we thank them for their support.”

A public meeting will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Community Campus at 1050 Fox Acres Road, Hailey. In addition, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Big Wood located at 100 Saddle Dr, Ketch um.
