Dutch Bros. Coffee raising funds and awareness for autism
On April 2, “Light It Up Blue” World Autism Awareness Day, all 12 Dutch Bros. Coffee locations in the Treasure Valley will donate $1 from every drink sold to the Autism Speaks organization.
“Light It Up Blue Day” involves supporters from across the globe displaying blue decorations, lights and clothing to help kick off Autism Awareness Month.
Meridian Dutch Bros. Owner Jeff Yarnall says, “Carter, the son of our employee Kayla McNitt, has autism. April is Autism Awareness Month, and we want to get our stands involved.”
All other Treasure Valley Dutch Bros. locations, locally owned and operated in Boise/Garden City, Caldwell/Nampa and Ontario, Ore., wanted to show their support, as well.
Carter, now 4 ½ years old, was diagnosed with autism about two years ago.
When Carter was diagnosed, Kayla used Autism Speaks Web resources to find local therapy, classes and support groups in The Valley. Today, Carter still doesn’t speak, but, after just one year of therapy, he now freely gives hugs and affection that he didn’t show previously.
All Treasure Valley locations will donate all day, from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. There will also be jars available for customer donations.
Kayla advises that there are many Treasure Valley families affected by autism, which is the fastest growing but most underfunded developmental disability in the U.S. One in 88 children is diagnosed, with a higher prevalence of diagnoses among boys.
Dutch Bros. Coffee donates over $1 million every year to nonprofit organizations and causes, in an effort to achieve its goal of “making a difference, one cup at a time.”
If you would like to show your support on April 2, then please visit one of the 12 Treasure Valley Dutch Bros. coffee locations: 6 in Boise and Garden City, 3 in Meridian, 2 in Nampa and Caldwell, and 1 in Ontario, Oregon.
