Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS) is providing a series of five different field trips at their garden site, located at 4821 West Franklin Road in Boise. Lesson plans are themed for Early Learners (Pre-K – 2nd) and Mid-Learners (3rd – 6th). The field trips will be held at 9:30am - 11:30am, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday’s and begin April 1 – May 31st, starting back up in the fall, September 1-30th.
All program fees are $3.00 per person. There is a 12 student minimum, and fee assistance is available.
Through the outdoor garden classroom, students connect with nature and the source of their food. Field trips cover topics such as where food comes from, soil and compost ecosystems, the importance of insects in the garden, plant parts and their growth, as well as a harvest celebration only offered during September.
The fall harvest field trip is filled with music, stories and garden activities. The entire workshop series can combine to further uncover the students’ curiosity of their surrounding world.
BUGS cultivates hands-on, inquiry based education to kids and grown-ups across the Treasure Valley rooting the connection to food and health in our community through knowledge, skills, and practices that harvest an ownership of your own food system.
