Journalists throw support behind former Labrador spokesman
National journalists are showing their support for Congressman Raul Labrador's former spokesman, Phil Hardy.
Labrador's office said Hardy was behind a racy tweet accidentally posted to the congressman's Twitter page Sunday night. According to Labrador's staff, Hardy admitted to tweeting "me likey Broke Girls", but said he meant to post it on his personal Twitter page. The tweet, in reference to a Super Bowl ad, was removed within 14 seconds, but not before catching the attention of national political websites.
Labrador reportedly fired Hardy on Monday.
Now, some political journalists are calling fowl. The editor-in-chief of buzzfeed.com tweeted, "The idea that you'd fire someone for a very minor Twitter blooper is crazy."
Francesca Chambers, the editor of Red Alert Politics, made this post. "Everyone makes mistakes. Was this really a fire worthy offense? In today's digital age, I really don't think so."
