Canyon County will celebrate its 120th anniversary during the month of November with several events planned to honor the county’s history.

"As part of the anniversary celebration, all three floors of the courthouse will feature historical displays depicting Canyon County’s history through the eyes of the cities that shaped it," said Joe Decker with Canyon County. "There will also be an expansive historical coin and money display generously provided by Canyon County Coin. The displays will be set up on Tuesday, November 13th and remain on display through the end of the month."

The official 120th anniversary celebration will take place at the courthouse on Monday, Nov. 19 with a reading of the 1892 proclamation that created Canyon County, a brief history of the county, the honoring of historic Canyon County families, the announcement of the essay/art contest winners and more. Following the readings, there will be an open house at the courthouse featuring live music, historical displays, refreshments and other activities. The courthouse will remain open until 7:00 p.m. to allow extra visitors to take part in the celebration.

The courthouse will remain open until 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 20 so citizens who work until 5:00 p.m. have a chance to come enjoy the historical displays. Regular courthouse operations will still end at 5:00 p.m. these dates but the doors will remain open for visitors.
