ISDA to allow citizens to get rid of unusable pesticides

By Jaclyn Brandt. CREATED Sep 27, 2012

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture wants to give agricultural producers, dealers, professional applicators and homeowners who are storing unusable pesticides a safe, legal and free opportunity to dispose of them this October when they will conduct its annual unusable pesticide collections in American Falls, Burley, Twin Falls and Nampa.

You can dispose of your first 1,000 pounds of pesticides for free during the event. Pesticides include – herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides or anything with a “cide” at the end and should be brought to the closest collection site between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the date and location listed below. (No fertilizer, micronutrients, paint, solvents or motor oil can be accepted during this event)

Participants will need to register the total number of pounds of pesticides that they are disposing by calling their local ISDA field office, or by calling the Boise office.

Fall 2012 collections sites:

American Falls: October 1st – Power County Transfer Station

Burley: October 2nd – Bureau of Land Management Yard

Twin Falls: October 3rd – Twin Falls Canal Company

Nampa: October 4th – Pickles Butte Landfill
