River washout closes section of North Fork Boise River Road

By Newsroom. CREATED May 8, 2012

A key section of the North Fork Boise River Road, Forest Road 327 within the Boise National Forest, has been closed due to a river washout at Milepost 30.

This road is commonly used in the summer months for easier access from Highway 21 to the Middle Fork Boise River and Atlanta.

The prime alternate route until the washout is repaired is the Middle Fork Boise River Road.

The secondary alternate route is Forest Road 348 to its junction with Forest Road 327, which connects to the Middle Fork Boise River Road. That road is rough and not suitable for passenger vehicles, or trailers.

The road surface at the washout has been reduced to less than two feet in width. It is located about 40 miles east of Boise in Boise County.

Repairs will be initiated once the river recedes and required fishery consultation is completed. Due to the rivers modified flow, the repairs will require an on-site relocation of the road surface into a rock outcropping adjacent to the current road prism.

Further information about access in the area is available by contacting the Idaho City Ranger District at 392-6681.
