NNU student nurses invite men to walk a mile in a woman's shoes

By Jaclyn Brandt. CREATED Apr 12, 2012

The Northwest Nazarene Student Nurses Association invites male participants to walk a mile wearing high heels for the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in support of survivors of domestic violence.

The walk will begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on the Northwest Nazarene University Track if the weather is nice, and Johnson Sports Center if it is raining.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Nampa Family Justice Center. Limited pairs of large size high heels will be provided. Women are also encouraged to join the walk in support.

In Idaho, 1,735 forcible sex offenses and 565 forcible rapes were reported in 2009 according to the Idaho State Police Crimes Against Persons Annual Report. In an attempt to bring the community together, local organization leaders have joined the national Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event since 2006 to encourage men to prevent and fight against sexual violence, provide a safe Idaho, and raise awareness of sexual assault and rape in the community.
