She may not be from the Gem State originally, but don't let that fool you: Rachel Garceau love all things Idaho, especially the goings-on around the Treasure Valley. Her journalism career actually began right here in the Valley eight years ago and she hasn't strayed since! Rachel joined the On Your Side team in 2012, happily taking over weekend anchoring and producing duties after a nearly year-long break from the hustle and bustle of TV news.
Originally from a small town north of Seattle, Rachel left the soggy Pacific Northwest and headed east, to the actual four seasons of Idaho. She attended Northwest Nazarene University, though when she started (waaaay back when), it hadn't yet become a university – so her fond memories are not so much of NNU, but of NNC. Rachel will joke that should tell you a little something about her age! It took a couple of semesters to figure out, but eventually Rachel discovered that communications and journalism were a perfect fit for her, and she graduated with a degree in Mass Communications and a passion for news. She also became an avid fan of the Boise State Broncos along the way. She met her husband Kristian while at NNU, and they now have their hands full raising two busy kids, who's calendars are more full than their parents'.
Rachel began her journalism career as a part-time Associate Producer back in 2005, and since then, has moved on to nearly every job there is in the business, including Executive Producer, reporter, and weather anchor. She has found her “home” behind the anchor desk, though, and is proud to bring On Your Side viewers the latest, most pertinent news of the day. Rachel loves being a part of such a connected, vibrant community and feels honored each and every day to bring that community up to date on what's important to them.
