Sheep fall asleep on road after escaping big, bad coyote

Drivers in Massachusetts recently encountered a rather unusual sight on a road in Topsfield.

A small herd of 14 sheep was camped out in the middle of a road.

The herd's owner told WCBV-TV that the sheep went on the run Saturday night after they were most likely scared by a coyote.

The sheep broke through their hot-wire fence and took off. They finally decided to stop when they reached the road.

According to their owner, sheep are not dumb. They knew that if they reached an area where there were houses, they would be safe. So, once they reached the road, they sat down. After all, they were tired after running around all night and needed a nap.

The local police tried to persuade the sheep to move along but were unsuccessful. They finally headed for home after their owner came to retrieve them.

None of the sheep were killed or seriously injured during the escape. However, one of them did have some scratches on its body. Coyotes are apparently a big problem for sheep owners in the area.
