Police officer trips students, placed on paid leave

Officer George Bermudez is now on paid administrative leave from the Georgetown, Texas, Police Department after he was caught on camera tripping students at a high school team championship soccer game. Parents caught Bermudez in the act.

Vandegrift High School won against Wylie East High School for the first time as state champs in its five years sports history. The Texas soccer team won in the final two minutes of the game, and the student body subsequently flooded the field in celebration.

“I’m sure he [Bermudez] was just trying to keep the players safe; it was just his method in which he chose to do it that’s questionable,” Pam Waggoner, president of the Leander school board, tells the Austin American-Statesman. The parents video recording from the bleachers were “pretty upset,” Waggoner adds. “I wasn’t even out of the stadium before they were putting it on YouTube."

Bermudez's actions are under investigation at this time.
