VIDEO: New York police, firemen get into huge hockey brawl

By Jay Sorgi. CREATED Apr 8, 2014

Hockey fights are a tradition, just not when New York's finest and New York's bravest hit the ice.

However, that's exactly what happened when the New York Police Department and New York Fire Department battled in the second period of their charity classic this past weekend.

It happened at the Nassau Coliseum, the home of the New York Islanders - someplace that has seen about four decades of hockey brawls.

“It was reminiscent of the old-time Rangers-Flyers games in the mid-’70s,” a New York Police officer told the New York Post.

“I was waiting for [1970's Philadelphia Flyers tough guy] Dave Schultz to come out on the ice.”

A CBS New York report said it took 25 minutes for the public servants to return to a peaceful hockey game.
