TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Judy Minley, 26, and James Dwight Robinson, 27, have been charged with one count of first degree murder after a 4-year-old boy died as a result of his injuries.
Sgt. Maria Hawke with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that Minley and Robinson were originally arrested on one count of child abuse after Minley's son, Jaedyn, was sent to the hospital.
Officers say crews initially responded to an apartment in the 5400 block of East Williams on March 25, because of reports of a child-drowning incident.
There was no indication that the child had been under water or nearly drowned as the original report said.
Crews with Tucson Fire arrived and found a 4-year-old boy unconscious and non-responsive. They revived the child during transport, but noticed he had severe bruising on various parts of his body. Jaedyn was also bleeding.
According to court documents, Robinson admitted to detectives that he beat Jaedyn for an hour straight -- at one point breaking the sandal he was using and then taping it back together only to beat him again.
Hawke says detectives determined Minley and Robinson disciplined the boy over several hours before putting him to bed.
Minley and Robinson are booked into the Pima County Jail.
Nine On Your Side spoke to Jaedyn's biological father, Lance Minley by phone. The Navy Veteran, who lives in Atlanta, described his son as curious, smart and funny. He says he will miss Jaedyn's sense of humor the most.
