TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)-  Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock has been named the National League Player of the Week for the week ending June 1, 2014. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.
In six games last week, Pollock led the Majors in hitting, posting a .522 batting average (12-for-23). The 26-year-old also led the N.L. with a .593 on-base percentage, 23 total bases, nine runs scored and six doubles, and was tied for the league lead in hits and slugging percentage (1.000). Pollock collected four RBI and swiped two bases last week before being hit by a pitch and suffering a fractured right hand in Saturday night's contest against the Cincinnati Reds.
Also on Monday, the Dbacks announced that Pollock underwent successful surgery to repair the fracture in his right hand, with a plate and screws put in place by Dr. Sheridan.
He is tentatively scheduled to resume baseball activity in approximately eight weeks.
