Dbacks place Paul Goldschmidt on 15-day disabled list, recall OF Alfredo Marte
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed first baseman Paul Goldschmidt on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand.
According to the Diamondbacks Goldschmidt suffered the injury in his ninth-inning, pinch-hit appearance when he was hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh Pirates' reliever Ernesto Frieri.
D-Backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers also announced on Saturday that the team has recalled outfielder Alfredo Marte from Triple-A Reno.
The 25-year-old outfielder has played in 16 games over his 2 stints with Arizona with season and hit .258 with 1 home run, 3 doubles, and 7 RBIs. He became the first D-back to hit a grand slam for his first Major League home run during a pinch-hit appearance against the Phillies on July 25th.
Marte, who was optioned to Reno on July 29th, has played in 78 games for the Aces and has batted .319 with 46 runs scored, 15 doubles, 3 triples, 11 home runs, and 45 RBIs.
