Woman speaks after her son is charged with murdering her husband

By Simone Del Rosario. CREATED Jan 25, 2014 - UPDATED: Jan 25, 2014

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - According to deputies, a father's own son killed him in a fight.

Just three days later, the wife and mother spoke to Nine On Your Side about the difficult position she is in: She lost her husband and her son is behind bars, charged with his murder.

Pima County Sheriff's deputies said the fight between 47-year-old Justin Patrick and his 20-year-old son Jared Patrick happened outside their Marana home Wednesday around 8:30 p.m.

Dawn Patrick, Justin's wife, called 911 and reported that he wasn't breathing. Her other son administered CPR until deputies arrived and took over, but Justin didn't make it.

"I'm hurting -- not only for my husband but my son as well -- for something that wasn't intentional that had consequences that you can't come back from," Dawn Patrick said.

The fight broke out just one day after Dawn said she and Justin celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.

Now, without her husband, she's trying to take care of their family, which includes a handicapped daughter and her son, Dawn and Justin's grandson.

Seven-year-old Ethan wrote this letter: 'Papa, I miss you. I love you. I wish you could come back home from Heaven to take care of me.'

A family that had fallen on hard times; Dawn does not know how she can even take care of the funeral expenses.

"I need to be able to bury my husband and hopefully just find a way to go on."

Dawn told Nine On Your Side she has spoken to her son from jail. She said she took his call long enough to tell him she loves him, but said nothing more.
