TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Eighth Annual Mujer Latina Breast Cancer Conference is scheduled for October 12th in Tucson. The free bi-lingual gathering, put on by The University of Arizona Cancer Center, will pull together information and resources targeting the Hispanic Community.
Doctors say the incidence of breast cancer in Latinas appears to be lower than in non-Latinas in the United States, but the rate appears to be increasing. Researchers say many factors play into the challenge facing Latinas including limited English proficiency, distrust of the health care system, transportation and an inability to take time off from work for screening. Those factors along with possible impact of the Affordable Care Act will be discussed at the Conference.
It will be held at the UAMC South Campus Abrams building at 3950 South Golf Club Road on October 12, 2013 from 8 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon.
