TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A man and a woman were both arrested after a three-month investigation by the DEA revealed they performed illegal medical procedures at a clinic in town.
Authorities with the Drug Enforcement Administration tell KGUN9 that Gustavo Nunez and Ilda Garcia were arrested on multiple felony charges after officials say they performed liposuction and breast augmentation procedures inside an industrial warehouse located at 1656 N. 5th Ave.
Two women who received procedures at NuTec, the name of their clinic, were sent to the emergency room after suffering severe complications.
Authorities say Nunez also prescribed controlled substances to women after the procedures causing one woman to become unconscious for several hours.
They performed these procedures without a state medical license or a DEA Registration.
A search warrant at the warehouse uncovered various controlled substances and three refrigerators filled with an assortment of prescription drugs.
Authorities also seized liposuction needles, some of which were half full with people's names on them. Authorities found re-used needles prepared for use as well.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the DEA Tactical Diversion Squad at 520-573-5500.
The DEA, Tucson Police and South Tucson Police all investigated this case. It will be prosecuted by the Arizona Attorney General's Office.
The Tucson Better Business Bureau recommends patients use a checklist published by the Arizona Medical Board to help determine if a cosmetic surgeon is legitimate.
