TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Monday marks the first day of class at the University of Arizona, and local businesses said they have been waiting all summer long for this day to come.
On East University Boulevard, business owners tell Nine On Your Side it's been a slow trickle of customers for months. But all of that is about to change.
"Business gets really slow; we only have one person working at a time as opposed to during the school year when we might have multiple people," said Katie Cocchi, a barista at Espresso Bar. "We might have five or six customers for a two-hour period, which is pretty bad...In contrast, whenthe school year starts we usually have lines out the door...But I find it's the students that are the ones that make our business what it is."
Cocchi said business during the school year is so lucrative, it allows them to stay open during the slow months.
