TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)- The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has some tips for keeping your pets safe when you ring in the new year.
The loud noise and celebrations can frighten many dogs and for a pet outside, their only option is to escape. The Humane Society sees an increase in lost pets after the New Year holiday.
To help keep your pets safe, keep them indoors. For dogs and cats who are extra sensitive, the organization said to create a den-like environment for them if possible, like a crate, room or walk-in closet without windows.
If you can, stay home and provide security and comfort for your animal, the society said.
Turn on a television or radio to provide soothing sounds to distract your pet from outdoor noises.
Lastly, make sure your furry friend has a well-fitted collar and identification tags.
If your pet does get lost, you can call HSSA's Lost and Found Department at 327-6088, ext. 11. You can also call Pima Animal Care Center at 793-5900 to file a lost report.
