TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - There's a new scam involving Tucson's infamous red light cameras.
A Nine On Your Side viewer said he received an intimidating phone call from someone saying he had a bench warrant for his arrest because of an unpaid red light camera ticket.
The caller claimed to be from the sheriff's department and even gave a name and badge number. He said that if the person didn't pay the ticket over the phone right away, they would show up to his house and arrest him.
The caller was so convincing the man gave him his credit card information, but quickly canceled the card when he realized it was a scam.
Authorities want to remind the public that they would never ask for money or personal information over the phone or at your door.
Any legit officer or agency contacting you will have all the information they need. If you receive a suspicious phone call or visitor, call the non-emergency line of the agency or a 911 dispatcher can direct you.
