TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Nine On Your Side obtained the 911 calls from the deadly hit and run that killed two people early New Years Day.
Witnesses say Michael Leday repeatedly ran over three people near Campbell and Sunland Vista.
He killed 32-year-old Patrick Balbastro and 47-year-old Cindy Burnett.
Balbastro's girlfriend, Valerie Calonge, was badly hurt.
Police would not release the audio of the calls because they said the noises in the background are too traumatizing.
But the transcripts of those calls reveal Patrick Balbastro's words right before he was killed and the witnesses in the street who saw it happen.
In the early morning of New Years Day, Balbastro and his girlfriend came across what Balbastro called a "disturbance," and called 911.
"There's somebody out in the middle of the street," he said. "A black male and a female. They're fighting...I guess he's abusing her."
Balbastro got out of his car and confronted the man now known as Leday.
Balbastro's call with 911 remained live, and the transcript says the operator heard a "car engine revving" and "screeching tires."
"911, what's your emergency?" A neighbor had called in.
"There's this dude right here on Sunland Vista, he's running people over with cars."
"Would you like to try and help out the victims?" the operator asked another caller.
"I went over there already, but then ran back to the house cuz he...oh he's back. He keeps coming back and running over people."
Leday got away that night, but was discovered two weeks later in Kansas City, Mo.
He was extradited to Pima County Jail and faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
