TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson Electric Power says it's diversifying its energy portfolio by getting less power from a coal-fired plant in eastern Arizona while moving to expand its purchases of power generated by natural gas.

The utility says it's trying to take advantage of low natural gas prices by entering into talks with Entegra Power Group LLC to purchase a gas-fired generating unit at the Gila Bend Generating Station in Gila Bend.

Meanwhile, TEP says it will receive a smaller percentage of the power from Unit 1 of the coal-fired Springerville Generating Station in Springerville.

The utility also says its plans to increase its plans to use more power from renewable sources and from natural gas will reduce its emissions profile.
