Survivor helps Arizona hotshot fundraising effort
PHOENIX (AP) - The lone survivor of the Granite Mountain Hotshots was among those who gathered at an Arizona golf club to raise funds for the families of his fallen friends.
Brendan McDonough spoke Friday at the Gainey Ranch Golf Club following a benefit golf tournament to honor the 19 hotshots who died when they were overcome while fighting a blaze near Yarnell.
After a day on the green, he thanked the crowd for their support for the families.
The Arizona Republic reports that the tournament - along with a "Fill the Boot" fundraiser that was held throughout Arizona and Nevada - raised $100,000 for Yarnell residents and the families of the fallen firefighters.
Organizers say they will continue to raise money through Aug. 10.
