Students mourn loss of Pinal County teen
SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV)- A solemn day as Poston Butte High School students grieve the loss of 16-year-old Julieann Arancel, killed in a golf cart rollover late Saturday night.
"Everybody is walking around school not saying a lot and we're use to people talking a lot and people [are] just like mourning and stuff like that. All you could do is just sit back and watch them," PBHS senior Gordon McKee told 9OYS.
"It was kind of hard to see everybody, just reminding you that she's not here and everybody's wearing purple, you know that we're all wearing it for her," Arancel's friend Jocelyn Sandoval said.
Monday, students wore purple, the teen's favorite as color as an unofficial tribute to her memory.
Surrounded by her daughter's friends the night before at vigil. Arancel's mother spoke of the high school junior who she says, dreamed of one day joining the Air Force.
"Seeing her at the hospital was like, no...no! My baby girl," Maryanne Arancel said.
"She's wonderful, She admires her friends. She adores her friends. She loves life," Arancel's mother continued.
