PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Crews have rescued a 70-year-old man who became stranded the day before while hiking a northern Arizona canyon with Boy Scouts.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says the man was airlifted Sunday morning from the West Clear Creek area, several miles east of Camp Verde.
Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn says the man, who has cardiac issues, stayed in the canyon overnight with two other men.
The other two are believed to be his son and grandson.
Authorities say four adults and eight teens were reported missing around 3 p.m. Saturday after they failed to show up at a meeting spot.
Deputies and the Arizona Department of Public Safety found the group three hours later.
D'Evelyn says they had to stay overnight so that rescuers could resume efforts in daylight.
