St. Demetrios hopes community will turn out for benefit concert
The Tucson Fire Department responded to an overnight fire inside the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Local Greek church hopes the community will turn out for a benefit concert to help the church rebuild.
St. Demetrios typically hosts the annual Tucson Greek Festival this weekend, but a fire in late May closed the church and forced the cancellation of the celebration of Greek food and culture.
However, there is still a way people can help support Greek culture and St. Demetrios this weekend.
St. Demetrios is hosting a benefit concert at the Tucson Fox Theatre Saturday night.
Earlier this year, an early morning fire raged through the church, torching walls and charring just about everything, resulting in roughly $1 million dollars in damage. Fire officials were forced to condemn the building.
Now, church members are asking for help so that they can rebuild.
Tickets are still available for Saturday's concert. Doors open at 6pm and the concert starts at 7 pm.
