Round 2 in District 3; Saucedo Mercer looking ahead to second go-around with Grijalva
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - It's officially round two in District 3.
Like her incumbent opponent, republican Gabriela Saucedo Mercer breezed through this primary unopposed.
Now the mother of three, Mexico native, and naturalized US citizen, who is not backed by the republican party, is running on several issues.
One prime platform is immigration.
She says a perfect example of a need for new leadership is the recent border crisis, punctuated by undocumented Central American kids crossing into the US by the thousand.
"The federal government has failed the people of America, not just Arizona," said Saucedo Mercer. "Congressman Grijalva advocates 'How can you separate the families?' Well, these children are separated from their families. Their families are in other countries. How come we can't take these children and take them back to their families?"
Another facet of the immigration issue brings Saucedo Mercer back 2011 and to controversial comments she made about "all middle eastern immigrants," saying "their only goal is life was to harm the US."
She later clarified and said she meant Islamic extremists.
Fast forward to 2014 and to headlines of unprecented terrorist networks like ISIS
9OYS asked her take. She said "Was I right?"
