Reid Park Zoo announces hatching of violet turaco chicks

CREATED Oct. 15, 2013

TUCSON(KGUN9-TV)- Reid Park Zoo has just announced the recent hatching of two violet turaco chicks.

Guests can now find the birds on exhibit in the zoo's Flight Connection walk-through aviary.

Violet turacos are normally found in forests, woodlands, and other cultivated areas throughout central Africa.  They aren't strong flyers, but they usually run through trees and jump from branch to branch.

The birds feature a crown of red feathers on their heads, purple feathers on their body, and bright orange and yellow beaks.
