TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - There's more quiet over the Grand Canyon. Air tour operators who use new technology to quiet the sound of their aircraft engines are getting a discount.
A new $20 fee reduction per flight has gone into effect for any of the eight operators who fly visitors over the massive canyon. Hikers and tourists on the ground had complained that aircraft noise was drowning out their solitude and appreciation of nature in the canyon.
Operators who do not have quiet technology will continue to pay the full $25 per flight fee.
